Coronation Street airs surprise baby twist in ITVX episode

Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (November 22), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street has hinted that the Platt family could end up raising Lauren Bolton’s baby son Frankie.

Lauren proposed the unexpected idea in Friday’s episode as she reached out to Max Turner for support while facing a potentially bleak future in prison.

Earlier this week, Lauren came clean to the police over how she was responsible for striking the fatal blow that killed Joel Deering.

This ultimately led to the release of Max, who’d made a failed attempt to falsely take the blame for the crime.

In Friday’s episode, Max faced further questioning as he was still in trouble with the police for his attempts to pervert the course of justice.

At this point, Max was still unaware that his stepdad David Platt had sparked Lauren’s downfall by handing over the incriminating letter which detailed the teens’ cover-up plan.

DC Kit Green filled in the blanks, tipping Max off that his family had intervened to protect him. The revelation went down very badly with Max, who was furious with David for interfering.

Later, an imprisoned Lauren called Roy Cropper at the café and was given a chance to speak to Max when Roy handed over the phone.

Lauren updated Max on how she hopes to raise Frankie in the prison’s mother and baby unit, but isn’t sure whether permission for this will be granted.

She asked: “Max, if they say no, will you take care of him? You and your family, please? I know it’s a lot to ask. You don’t have to answer now, but please, will you look after him?”

Back at the Platt house, Max told David and Shona about Lauren’s request and indicated that he wanted to say yes.

Max announced: “Frankie is going to be moving in with us. If Lauren’s not allowed to keep him with her, then he’s our responsibility. It’ll be your fault he’s got no mum – the least you can do is give him a good home.”

As David protested over the practicalities of the situation, Max refused to listen. Could the Platts be welcoming a new arrival?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
