Kelly Monaco has remained relatively silent since news of her General Hospital exit broke at the end of August. Now, she has shared thoughts about how her character was treated in an Instagram comment section.
General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco breaks her silence
In September, Monaco, who celebrated 21 years as Sam on October 1, 2024, said a few words on the first anniversary of late former co-star Billy Miller’s passing. Since then, fans have not heard anything from the actress until this week.
In her September 15 post, Monaco wrote: “Duces I’ve got your back and you always had mine’ I will tell our story soon enough…. love and miss you… and beyond.”

On September 30, Monaco replied to a comment in a post from Soap Hub. The post featured an article about Monaco and Greg Vaughan, who now plays Eric Brady on Days of our Lives, but once played GH’s Lucky Spencer.
However, Monaco’s comment was not about the article but instead was in response to an Instagram user named staciee123 who claimed Monaco had “no primary roles” on GH.
“‘No primary role’…do your homework,” Monaco wrote. “When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I worked for decades to build… Slowly dismantling her into a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will…retaliation at its finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”
Fans had been noting for a while that Sam had changed and been relegated to the back burner storyline-wise, which Monaco references in her reply. Miller was let go from GH in 2019. On September 15, 2023, the actor, who suffered from bipolar disorder, took his own life.
Sam’s time on GH is coming to a close
While Sam is still featured on-screen in current storylines, Monaco’s mother, Carmina Monaco, revealed that her daughter finished taping her last GH scenes on September 27.
“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital,” Carmina wrote. “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time.”
While there’s no word on how Sam will be killed off, some have speculated that the character will drown when trying to find the gun that her mother, Alexis, threw into the river. Soap Central will keep you informed when Monaco’s last airdate is released.
