The Young and the Restless Two Scoops for the week of October 21, 2024

On The Young and the Restless this week, Jack gave Diane the boot, Lily couldn’t get a table for one, and Daniel got arrested.

The week started with Billy and Sally kissing at her hotel door, and Billy later apologized. Good move, Billy, but we’d like one, too, please. An apology, that is — that one kiss was enough. As pkmott44 put it, the only ones surprised that Billy and Sally kissed were Billy and Sally.

It felt like we were given a visual of what that pair looked like together to gauge viewer reactions.

And the reactions were…meh.

Billy and Sally really have no business being together or no business at all. The only thing they have in common is a dislike of Adam, and they’re two current members of the Genoa City Broken Hearts Club.

The most interesting part of their evening (thank you for not commiserating, for once) was hearing Sally’s childhood memories of growing up in a carnival circuit and learning to drive in a clown car. Flashbacks would have been divine.

Devon wants a divorce before he even gets married

Devon started the week by bringing Abby a latte. After eating all the wedding cakes they had just tasted-tested, he asked her if she also needed the sugar in her drink.

Abby held true to the commitment she made to herself and didn’t turn into Bridezilla. She laughed him off and said she’d only taken small bites.

Close one, Devon. Maybe he’ll go tell Lily “I told you so” or something.

Lily doesn’t share food

Lily made her way around town, looking for somewhere she could eat in peace, but she didn’t find it. First, Billy invited himself to her table to let her know that she was still fired, he didn’t want a truce, and he was not his mommy’s puppet.

Then, Nikki joined Lily despite being clearly told that Lily had asked for a table for one. Nikki didn’t care, apologized for lying by omission, and offered Lily a subservient position at Chancellor again.

Lily was trying to eat when Nate and Devon came in. Once again, they told her to just lick her wounds from being out in the big world and come home to Hamilton Winters, where she would also not be top dog. Nate and Devon claimed to be making Lily an offer she couldn’t refuse, but she did.

Hell hath no fury

Lily tried to eat a salad by herself at Society, but Audra spotted her and wanted to join her with a liquid lunch in hand. For a moment, I thought my wish would come true if those two teamed up and did something fierce (no, I still don’t know what). But alas, they just exchanged some barbs and deep thoughts.

Funnily enough, Lily managed to become a cheerleader for both of them. Lily’s TedTalk seemed to inspire Audra so much that when Nate told Audra he was behind her 100%, she said thanks but no thanks and didn’t need his support. When Nate agreed with Audra, she told him she didn’t care what he thought. And when Nate told Audra he was confident that she would succeed, she said she’d do it on her own.

Nate was trying really hard to be supportive, and Audra seemed a little harsh. But, Nate had just come from hanging out with Devon, and his wise ways around the female folk might’ve rubbed off on his cousin.

The plot thickens with Amy Lewis

Ok, so the plot didn’t really thicken, but she contacted Nate with another mysterious message and said she was coming to town.

Amy got Nate to fly to her and gave him some momentos of his dad’s, but nothing of value, he said. Nate felt that Amy was trying to get to know his character for some reason.

Now, Amy had something to tell Nate, and he’d find out what it was when she got to town. She said she was coming to Genoa City the next day, but we won’t actually see her until next week. Even then, we probably won’t find out what she wants until the week after that at the rate this is developing.

Adam’s loyalty to Jack

Just when you think that you’ve lost all faith in humanity, or at least the GCPD, Adam restores your peace of mind. Yes. You read that correctly, Adam.

Adam’s fierce loyalty to Jack might be his one commendable characteristic. Victor asked Adam to do a hit piece on Billy, and he didn’t hesitate to agree. But when Victor wanted him to write something smoothing over Audra’s exit from Glissade and explaining why Kyle was solely in charge, Adam not only said no, he demanded to know what Victor was up to.

Adam tried to get it out of Michael (isn’t anyone going to comment on his new ‘do?), but Michael played dumb. And then, to his — and our — surprise, Victor told Adam straight up.

Seems Victor has been harboring some resentment about that night that Jack was too wasted to lift a finger and spent the night in a hotel room with Nikki. Victor will never know what happened behind closed doors, but it’s keeping him up at night envisioning their “night of debauchery.” Adam didn’t think it was how Victor pictured it, but he understood. He told Victor just a little about his personal life in return.

It was an odd yet somehow refreshing moment between two of the most ruthless people in Genoa City.

Are they faking it?

I’m still leaning towards this war between Jack and Diane being an act. Did I blink and miss the build-up? One moment, they were desperate to find a way to get Kyle out of Victor’s clutches, and the next, they were having public blowouts.

Then Diane conveniently left her laptop open for Kyle to find a top-secret formula in a labeled desktop folder, and suddenly, it was game on. Jack went from wondering why he was getting the silent treatment to calling Diane a manipulative narcissist and throwing her out of their home, and her job.

Just in case Victor and Nikki missed any of that, Diane ran over to her favorite foes and repeated every word. She even gave them an update on her living quarters. Say what now? Diane, surely you didn’t think they’d care.

Or did she?

I smell a setup. It seems like Diane is trying to worm her way into helping Victor get to Jack while getting Kyle out of Victor’s claws. Meanwhile, Jack successfully starts to put some cracks in Kyle’s armor and make some headway in getting their son back.

It all happened so quickly, everyone around them is so thrown by the turn of events. So it makes you wonder. Is it all a well-thought-out plan, and they’re pretending to be separated as part of their strategy?

It would make sense that they’d keep up the ruse for Billy and Traci. It would be asking (and risking) too much for anyone else to have to play along.

Sharon’s lucid moments

Is Sharon better off with Cameron or not? I really can’t tell anymore. Just when she’s about to lose it and spill the beans to Nick about Heather’s death, Cameron stops her and makes her get control of herself.

But sometimes, Sharon seems to do fine on her own. From Chance surprising her late at night to Daniel knocking on her door, Sharon’s stable enough to think on her feet. She somehow remembers the little details of every lie and carefully retells them. She eerily adds to her stories, knowing that what she is saying are volatile triggers as she mounts more and more ways to make Daniel look guilty.

Daniel dropped into her chair. Sharon was making his head spin while she was gaslighting him. It was disturbing but impressive how smoothly she did that, especially considering her mental state.

If only she were that self-aware and able to remember what actually happened the night Heather died.

The Brilliant Detective

Chance brought in the forensic “team” of two people to Daniel’s apartment. One of them was walking around taking random pictures but then swapped the camera for a blue light. “We’ve got something,” they said. They moved to another area and let Chance hold the blue light. Oh, lookey, there was a murder here.

Chance found the murder weapon a moment later. It was a large, heavy octopus. Chance said the autopsy report claimed unusual markings on the back of Heather’s head. He guessed the octopus would be a match. Way to think outside the box, Chance.

We can hear you

For once, we saw some legit reactions to other restaurant patrons while a scene was happening. I don’t mean while they were filming a scene, I mean while someone was making one.

When Jack and Diane’s fights started escalating, everyone from Audra to Victor couldn’t help but overhear. While some enjoyed the show, others, like Traci, were embarrassed and noted that Jack wasn’t the type to make a public show. But she was oh, so wrong.

When Diane and Jack’s fights hit an all-time climax, there wasn’t anyone in a 3-block radius who didn’t hear every insult Jack was bellowing at his wife.

Meanwhile, at Society, no one was giving Phyllis and Nick a pass when he pretended to be naive about Sharon’s recent mental state. Phyllis had figured out that Sharon was the one framing Daniel and thought Nick was brainwashed. Phyllis shouted at Nick a few times. Not only did people look, but the camera actually moved to show their faces around the restaurant. Everyone was shocked, and it was about time we saw it.

Phyllis is on the rampage, desperate to get someone to hear what she’s saying. Ok, granted, she’s losing her touch on explaining why she thinks Sharon is framing Daniel, but she’s got another problem. Aside from not clearly stating that Sharon placed herself at the scene of the crime and was the last known person to see Heather alive, Phyllis lacks credibility.

Unfortunately, all those decades of attacking, killing, and betraying other people have come back to haunt Phyllis, and no one believes her — to the point that they don’t even consider Sharon. Chance is busy enough trying to find reasons to arrest his girlfriend’s brother, but he clearly doesn’t respect her mother.

Chance told Phyllis that his personal relationships with the key witnesses, the main suspect, and the murder victim were enough to bias him from being on the case and dismissed her. No way was he listening to any other information if it didn’t pertain to persecuting her son.

But he made a valid point. Phyllis has spent all of her time in Genoa City, making Christine and Sharon’s lives rather unbearable, to put it mildly. She needs someone who will listen, stat, if she is going to help Daniel.

Cricket hops back to town

Speaking of Christine, she rolled into town on a private jet like the girlfriend of a rockstar at just the right time. Christine did what she does best, and had impeccable timing.

She walked into the club just in time to inject her opinion about Lucy going with Danny. She slid into Crimson Lights as Chance hung up with the D.A., and on Monday, she’s going to magically appear as Daniel is arrested and announce that she’s his lawyer.

Phyllis isn’t happy about Christine being involved and thinks that her hatred for Phyllis will somehow taint her ability to help Daniel. But is the irony here that she’ll turn out that the only person who hears Phyllis and investigates her theory about Sharon framing Daniel is…the Bug?

Chelsea makes herself clear that she has no interest in taking Adam back. If he thought he still had a shot at all with Chelsea or Sally, it seems he drove the nail in those coffins with his hit piece on Billy. Even Lily felt protective of Billy when she read the article, so it must have been a doozy. But if Chelsea and Sally are actually done with him, who will Adam wind up with next? Sharon? Someone new?

Daniel’s arrest wasn’t too surprising. Chance clearly had been gearing towards that all week. Since he knew Christine was in town, wouldn’t he just call her and ask her to bring him in? There wasn’t really a need for the public arrest or the cuffs. But he’s a protocol guy when he feels like it.

The question now is how long until someone investigates Sharon. Will Christine wonder why no one suspects the last person to see Heather alive? Will Paul come to town? Will Nick offer information that looks bad for Sharon? Lucy did mention her biological mom before she left to be with Danny. Was that a clue of what was to come?

Until next time!
